These agreements represent an important advance. They initiate the execution of the program of the property development action that will lead to the execution of this sector in which the intermodal logistic platform Puerta Centro is located. Next steps in the management of the development are the approval of the land-subdivision project, which is currently in process.
Puerta Centro Ciudad del Transporte is a project of a powerful reference infrastructure for road-rail intermodal freight transportation between the seaports and the peninsular center of 2,2 million m2 with all necessary infrastructures and services to become one of the main Spanish intermodal logistic platforms within a short term.
This project will promote the use of rail freight transportation from and to peninsular seaports and Madrid, as well as other areas of the peninsular center because, as it is located beyond the reach of the suburban railway network of Madrid, it is not affected by the restrictions on passenger rail traffic. This implies remarkable savings of time and costs, as well as a greater guarantees of timely reception and dispatch of goods.
Additionally, because of its geographical location in a rising industrial and economic environment such as the Corredor del Henares which, because of its proximity to Madrid, makes an important logistics infrastructure supported by intermodality, and without disrupting commuter train traffic in this city. Puerta Centro is a cornerstone of compliance with the objectives of the Ministry of Development for a sustainable mobility and of the Extraordinary Infrastructure Plan of the mentioned Ministry in which rail transportation is enhanced, since 70% of investments will be done to improve high-speed and commuter trains networks, as well as freight transportation.
