Railway track assembly phase begins in Ciudad del Transporte

During the summer of 2024, the last phase of the Intermodal Railway Terminal that the Port of Tarragona is building in Puerta Centro – Ciudad del Transporte has begun.

The work being carried out consists of laying the railway material. This will allow the infrastructure to be operational in the summer of 2025.

Saül Garreta, President of the Tarragona Port Authority, Ana Guarinos, Mayoress of Guadalajara, Rafael Esteban, Mayor of Marchamalo, Juan José Cercadillo, President of Hercesa, and representatives of the respective technical teams attended the information session on this final phase.

This phase of construction will culminate in the connection of the terminal to the ADIF railway network at two points, one towards Madrid and the other towards Zaragoza. It will consist of the installation of 19 turnpoints to allow all train movements and maneuvers, the construction of 3 loading and unloading tracks for trains up to 750 meters in length, and 3 dispatch and reception tracks, also up to 750 meters in length.

Puerta Centro – Ciudad del Transporte is made up of 2,148,337 m2 for logistics and industrial uses, and the Railway Terminal is a multi-functional space specialized in logistics, distribution and transformation operations, with all the equipment and facilities. The project is a firm commitment to the sustainability of rail transport, which will link Guadalajara and Marchamalo to the Mediterranean area.

It all started 14 years ago when the president of Hercesa, Juan José Cercadillo, had a dream: to create Puerta Centro – Ciudad del Transporte to turn Guadalajara into the economic and logistic center of Spain. With his effort, that of Puerto de Tarragona, that of all the components of both companies and that of the public administrations in support of the initiative, the dream has become a reality.
