Hercesa is a pioneer in bringing renewable gas to its residential developments thanks to its alliance with Naturgy

Nedgia, the gas distributor of Grupo Naturgy, and Hercesa | hi Real Estate, a leading national developer with a presence in eight different countries, have signed an alliance to facilitate the use of renewable gases, especially biomethane, in the new developments promoted by the real estate group in Spain.
The agreement is a major step forward in bringing biomethane to the end consumer and a milestone in the energy transition by accelerating the decarbonization of the housing stock in an efficient manner.
The first developments that will include the connection enabled for the use of renewable gas will be located in Barañain (Navarra). They are two developments with a total of 175 homes, with construction scheduled to begin in January 2024. The agreement between the two companies includes the possibility of bringing renewable gas to Berrocales homes in Madrid and to the nearly 1,000 homes that Hercesa | hi Real Estate delivers annually.
Both companies agree on the importance of providing greater reliability and flexibility to the energy system, contributing to favoring external energy independence, as well as promoting energy solutions that help develop the circular economy. In this sense, biomethane is expected to play a key role as a solution that is already available and more efficient than other alternatives linked to the electrification of consumption in the residential sector.
The agreement also includes advice from Nedgia on the different uses of Renewable Gas for the energy endowment of buildings as well as the available applications of high energy efficiency to renewable gas. “We are very proud to be pioneers in the use of biomethane in our developments because we are committed to the circular economy generated by renewable energies, as our commitment to our customers is to be ahead of the curve in environmental care,” stated Juan José Cercadillo, CEO for Hercesa | hi Real Estate.
“The gas sector is immersed in a decarbonization process that can replace half of the total consumption in Spain with the adoption of biomethane, and due to this fact, the agreement with Hercesa | hi Real Estate is yet another example of our commitment to continue to focus on solutions that promote an environmentally and economically sustainable energy transition through renewable gas and its distribution networks”, as explained by Raúl Suárez, CEO for Nedgia.
The signing of the agreement was also attended by executives from both companies: Alejandro Catalán, General Coordinator of the Projects Department, Manuel Delgado, Head of the Management Area in the Department of Urban Development, on behalf of Hercesa | hi Real Estate, and María Martínez, environmental expert and member of the ESG Committee.
